Built in 1875, this four-story, sixteen classroom schoolhouse accommodated more than one thousand grammar and high school students. The last class graduated from the school in 1936. The school is thought to be haunted by a female spirit who has been named “Miss Suzette”. She is said to wander through the schoolyard and disappear at the front steps. One couple reportedly gave the mysterious lady a ride one evening. She said her name was Suzette and she had to get to the school. When they dropped her off, she vanished before their eyes.
The ghostly lady is thought to be a teacher who worked at the school in 1908. The school is on the corner of B street and C street in Virginia City. The old schoolhouse has been turned into a museum. Visit the official museum site for more information.
